Woman dies following recycling vehicle collision

A woman has died after a reported road traffic collision involving a recycling vehicle near Llandeilo in South West of Wales, according to police.

The incident occurred shortly after 10.30 am yesterday (April 7), when a recycling lorry, as described by police, collided with a grey Ford Fiesta travelling on the A40 between the towns of Manordeilo and Llandeilo.

Ambulance crews from the Wales Ambulance Service attended the scene, and Mid Wales Fire and Rescue Service were also called in an attempt to free the woman who had become trapped within her vehicle.

The 28-year-old male driver of the recycling vehicle was arrested at the scene and Police have appealed for witnesses.

The identity of the operator of the vehicle has not been divulged, and it has been confirmed that the vehicle was not connected with Carmarthenshire council operations.

In a statement, Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Ambulance attended the scene but tragically the woman driving the car died. Next of kin and H.M. Coroner have been informed.

“As a result of this collision a 28-year-old male has been arrested.”

A spokesman for the Wales Ambulance Service, added: “We were called shortly after 10.30am on Thursday to reports of a road traffic collision on the A40 in the Rhosmaen area of Llandeilo.

“We sent two rapid response cars, an emergency ambulance and a Wales Air Ambulance to the scene.”

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The road traffic collision involved a private motor vehicle and a lorry.

“A female casualty was trapped within the vehicle and released by the firefighters. Tragically, she died at the scene.”

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
