Waste World Cup group stages drawn

By 20/06/2019News

The group stages for the coveted Waste World Cup have been drawn, with the 17th edition of the industry’s best mixed gender sporting event shaping up to be one of the greatest.

Now just 15 days away, the 2019 Waste World Cup, sponsored by Enva Wood Recycling and Contenur,  will be taking place at Beaconsfield Rugby Club in Buckinghamshire, HP9 2JP. More information can be found here.

The group stages were drawn earlier today by the letsrecycle team, and can be seen in full below.

Some of the standout ties in the group stages include Suez Recovery vs Biffa in group D, while last year’s beaten finalists Grundon are in Group A, along with Veolia and Shred Station.

The format remains the same as always, with the winners of each group going on to a knock-out tournament to determine the 2019 winner. There will be a full day of football for everyone, however, as every team finishing second will also go into a separate tournament, as will the teams in third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions.

Competitions

Competitions up for grabs include the Cup, Plate, Bowl, Shield, Vase and Jug.

Mick George bagged the 2018 winners trophy for the second year in a row but have opted out for a rest this year

Players of all abilities are take part and as always, there has to be at least one male and one female on the pitch at all times! Each 6 a-side team can also have up to four rolling subs.

The tournament will be supporting WasteAid and taking place on Friday 5 July. And, with the Women’s World Cup final taking place on the following Sunday, this could provide the perfect warm up for England’s victory!

Over lunch, there will also be a chance to win £100 in the WasteAid Crossbar Challenge and the Contenur wheelie bin challenge.
