Waste sector gears up for RWM 2018

By 23/08/2018News

The next RWM will once again get underway at the NEC, Birmingham on the 12 – 13 September, hosting a range of product innovations, workshops and presentations for the recycling and waste management sector.

In partnership with CIWM, the Expo is set to deliver a “bigger” and “better” show, according to the new management, Prysm – one of the UK’s largest independent trade exhibition organisers, after acquiring RWM from Ascential PLC earlier this year (see letsrecycle.com story).

The show organiser has introduced a number of panel debates, case studies, summits, seminars and networking opportunities to the conglomerate; covering a “breadth” of topics to keep the show fresh while ensuring “growth” and “sustainability” within the industry. Predominately, this will be addressed by highlighting the new and ongoing challenges impacting the sector.

Seminars

Delegates will have access to 350 seminars across the two-day event, from the dilemmas surrounding plastics and “prevention of waste crime” to increasing recycling activities and helping smaller businesses achieve further growth.

350 seminars will take place over the two-day event

Key industry figures to note include Keith Trower, managing director of Viridor, who will present ‘Challenges for the plastics recycling market and global recycling agenda’; while CIWM president, Margaret Bates, shall host her Panel ‘Extended Producer Responsibility and Packaging.’

Other talks include Jacob Hayler, Executive Director of Environmental Services Association (ESA) on ‘Delivering best value through competition’; and Suez chief executive, David Palmer Jones, and Biffa CEO, Ian Wakelin’s Opening Panel: ‘Leaders of the waste world,’ among many in the line-up.

Exhibitors

RWM management reports to have compiled a “broad,” and “extensive” exhibitors list to cover all areas of the sector; allowing visitors to see the latest products/equipment and services from 500 organisations.

Among these, Katmerciler has confirmed its attendance along with specialist equipment suppliers Ken Mills Engineering, Eurotools, Magnapower Equipment, inciner8 Ltd, Lodi UK and Moisttech.

Meanwhile, LARAC will be representing its local authority membership on stand (5T02) and Innovate UK – part of UK Research and Innovation (4J111), will be attending to offer  support and guidance to business owners through new concepts and developments to raise their company profiles.

A dedicated networking area – sponsored by Viridor, will be featured in an attempt to bring industry professionals together to collaborate and share professional knowledge, as well as opportunities to establish potential working partnerships going into Q3 2018.

“With a new wave of legislations and policies coming into effect, RWM will give you the opportunity to capitalise and capture new business,” said Nick Woore, managing director of RWM. “We have a zone dedicated to providing education and solutions that will improve your strategies for 2019 by ensuring that revenues are maximised.”

Innovation Awards 2018

Aside from live debates and panel discussions, the Innovation Awards 2018 will get under way as each finalist competes for first place under their nominated category. A total of four categories have been confirmed this year, which are: ‘Product of the Year’, ‘Circular Economy’, ‘SME Innovation’ and ‘Energy Waste Champion.’

Each entrant will face a panel of “esteemed judges” as they pitch their product/service to them before all four winners are announced at the end of the proceedings.

Prysm

Around 12,000 waste professionals are expected to attend RWM 2018

Adding to his earlier statement, Mr Woore said: “Upon acquiring RWM, Prysm have promised an even bigger and better show than before. Delivering on this promise, you will discover all the innovations and products currently revolutionising the waste management industry from our dedicated zones that unite the world of energy, waste, water and recycling.

He continued: “You will have the opportunity to try, test and find the latest innovations with over 500 industry leading exhibitors. Receive the latest updates, tips and tricks from the biggest influential speakers in the industry.”
