Services and outsourcing group Smart Solutions has announced that it has bought a 50% stake in Armadillo Supplies, a South-Wales based supplier of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Armadillo Supplies was previously known as Celtic Industrial Supplies but was rebranded following Smart’s 50% stake in what is now described as a “joint venture business”.
Armadillo has since moved to 5,500 square-feet premises in Brynmawr, South Wales, and has invested £100,000 in new embroidery equipment and has also strengthened its management team, the company said this week.

Strengths
In a statement, Armadillo Supplies said it will have access to Smart Solutions’ back office support, including its IT knowledge and staff.
Armadillo was founded by former Smart Solutions director, Shane Heath and his business partner Terry Daniels. Danielle Hall has been seconded from her role as operations manager at Smart Solutions to take over as general manager of Armadillo Supplies.
Already providing safety helmets and eye protection, and other safety equipment in the UK, the company plans to “further grow its client base” and offer its clients office systems and client ordering portals.
“Joining forces with Smart Solutions offers a fantastic opportunity to combine our strengths,” said Mr Heath, director at Armadillo Supplies.
“We have a shared history, excellent product knowledge and a thorough understanding of what companies and workers need from PPE and workwear.”
Opportunity
Nathan Bowles, CEO of Smart Solutions and non-executive director of Armadillo Supplies, added that the joint venture offers Smart Solutions an opportunity to increase the services they offer clients.
“With the importance of work safety and PPE use ever clearer, and stringent government regulations about health and safety in place, Armadillo Supplies represents a significant opportunity for Smart Solutions to increase the services we offer our existing and new clients,” said Mr Bowles.
“It’s an exciting time for us, not least because Shane was previously a director and shareholder at Smart Solutions. Good relationships are key to the success of any joint venture and I’m confident that we have the right team in place to realise our ambitious plans for Armadillo Supplies.”
