Two coronavirus categories were added to this year’s Awards to celebrate the exceptional work undertaken by the sector during the pandemic.

The finalists and winners at the Awards for Excellence in 2019

These are: ‘Best Project, Campaign or Initiative in Response to the Coronavirus Pandemic’ and ‘Individual or Team Contribution in Response to the Coronavirus Pandemic’.

The winners will be announced at a virtual Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management ceremony on 6 November. The eight shortlisted entries can be seen below.

Judges

The coronavirus categories were judged by Sam Corp, head of regulation at the Environmental Services Association, and Steve Eminton, editor of letsrecycle.com.

Mr Eminton said: “I think during the national lockdown and subsequently as judges we were aware of the remarkable efforts by the waste sector to continue to provide a service to residents and commercial businesses.

“The entries confirmed what has been a huge effort on the part of local authorities and contractors, often bringing a smile to the faces of workers and residents. On top of this, we have seen individuals and teams involved in brilliant communications work and supporting the NHS and charities. A big thank you to everyone who entered and congratulations to all the finalists.”
