Colin Drinkwater – thanks and donations

Colin Drinkwater – following the death of her husband Colin, Sandra Drinkwater has expressed her thanks to the waste management industry for their kind words. 

Mrs Drinkwater said: “The family and I would like to thank our dear friends for the wonderful Tributes, the cards and letters received on the occasion of Colin’s death. It has been overwhelming to think that so many of you were thinking of us. Colin fought a valiant battle against his illness until the end with his wonderful humour. If anyone wishes donations in Colin’s name can be made to: Harefield Hospital, Hill End Road, Harefield, Uxbridge UB9 6JH.”

Farmer appointed MD at Mac UK Technical Services

Mac UK Technical Services (formerly RCP Engineering Ltd) has appointed Martin Farmer as managing director.

The company (www.m-t-s.limited) specialises in the installation, service and repair of baling presses and ancillary equipment in the waste paper and MRF sector.

Mr Farmer, formerly the company’s operations director, said: “I am pleased to be able to take the helm of this company in, what has to be said, is the most challenging of times, that UK businesses have ever faced. From this state of lockdown, I am so proud of all our teams who have continued to provide support to our customers throughout the UK and Ireland, attending breakdowns, repairs and on-going procures with real dedication. I am thankful not only to our teams but also to our customers who are facing this unprecedented situation professionally and pragmatically.”

The company, noted Mr Farmer, specialises in the installation, service and repair of Macpresse equipment working with Macpresse Europa Srl and is now expanding into the repair and maintenance of other manufacturer’s plant and equipment.


Director role for Pollard at Hills 

Neil Pollard has joined Hills Waste Solutions as divisional director for commercial operations. Reporting to Ed Dodd, group director, Mr Pollard is to lead the “profitable operation of Hills’ commercial waste collection operations and sales teams”.

In a statement, Hills said that he “will play a key role in Hills’ growth plans for collections and is part of Waste Solutions’ senior management team assisting in the management of the wider business, developing and implementing the associated strategy.”

The company describes its work as offering a range of specialist waste management and recycling services to both the public and private sector, which, while centred on Wiltshire, has stretched its boundaries into neighbouring areas to become “one of the region’s largest providers of waste solutions”.

Mr Pollard holds a degree in Economics from Swansea University and has over 19 years’ experience in business development, operations and project management from his previous roles in the commercial and industrial waste management industry. Mr Pollard has previously worked with Suez as regional business manager.


Changes at compliance business Valpak

Jon Clement has been promoted to the post of head of procurement at Valpak. He has been with the compliance organisation, which is part of Reconomy, from 2005.

Over the past 15 years, Mr Clement has specialised in topics including recycling, contract management, dry recyclables and exports.

Duncan Simpson

Other recent changes at Valpak include the departure of the long-serving director Duncan Simpson, who left at the beginning of May. Mr Simpson was director of sales and marketing from 2006 until  September last year when he took on the post of director of Scottish business development and relations for Valpak.

Mr Simpson, a fellow of CIWM, is now running his own consultancy business, Duncan Simpson Associates. He is also on the COVID 19 CIWM Advisory Group – 2020 for the Scottish Government Waste and Resources Sector Forum.


Non-exec role for Ikaheimonen at Averda

Esa Ikaheimonen

Averda, an end-to-end waste management company in emerging markets, has appointed Esa Ikaheimonen as a non-executive director.

Mr Ikaheimonen will sit on the Board and be chairman of the audit and finance committee, the company said. A statement from Averda noted that during the past 30 years, Mr Ikaheimonen has held senior leadership positions at a number of leading operators including Royal Dutch Shell, Transocean Plc, and Genel Energy Plc where he is currently CFO/CCO.
