Eunomia opens New York office

Consultancy firm Eunomia has opened an office in the United States of America as part of a global expansion plan.

Eunomia said the new office adds to its international network across seven cities and three continents.

According to Eunomia, there has been “growing demand” for its services across the world, and its work has attracted attention from the US – in particular its high-profile projects in the fields of marine plastics and the circular economy. The consultancy rose to fame partly by producing circular economy documents for the European Commission.

With the US generating around 254 million tons of waste each year, Eunomia said it believes US-based clients can benefit from perspectives on waste, recycling and environmental policy in Europe.

Sarah Edwards, the CEO of the new office said: “Despite federal government inaction, states, cities, businesses and grassroots organisations will continue to drive positive environmental change.  We look forward to working with them to deliver sustainable long term solutions.”

Re-Gen Waste receives health and safety award

Newry-based waste management company, Re-Gen Waste Ltd, has received an Ambassador Award at the Waste Industry Safety and Health Forum for Northern Ireland’s (WISHNI) annual ceremony, held in the Dunsilly Hotel, Antrim.

The award was presented in recognition of the company’s health and safety management activity at its Newry facility and remote transfer stations across the United Kingdom.

Pictured at Re-Gen Waste Ltd’s Newry facility with their WISHNI Ambassador Award are Managing Director Joseph Doherty and Ali Laverty, Re-Gen Health and Safety Manager.

The Ambassador Award Programme is an initiative developed by WISHNI, to recognise health and safety best practice within the waste industry in Northern Ireland.

Commenting on the award, managing director Joseph Doherty said: “We have worked very hard in the last three years, to create a best in class health and safety system that covers all aspects of our existing operations.

“This is a high risk industry so it is crucial that a robust health and safety strategy is implemented and rigorously observed.

Local Green Points unveils ‘Food Waste Challenge’

Local Green Points, provider of resident engagement services for waste and recycling, has announced its new product, ‘Food Waste Challenge’, which aims to provide local authorities with a ‘cutting-edge’ approach to reducing food waste.

The organisation explained that the Food Waste Challenge, which engages residents in positive food waste behaviours such as using up leftovers, is being rolled out to residents in the London borough of Havering from July 2017, followed by Waltham Forest and Kingston, with other councils expected to follow.

The programme combines a digital platform with competitive elements, communications and performance monitoring. Local Green Points said it has designed Food Waste Challenge to be fully flexible and customisable for each local authority.

Graham Simmonds, managing director at Local Green Points, said: “This new programme will help councils reduce the amount of food waste in residual bins and cut down contamination rates by educating residents to dispose of waste correctly.”

Food Waste Challenge encourages competition with leader boards and prizes and is a fun, new engagement tool to support local authority waste and recycling services.

Egbert Taylor Group receives global order

Bin manufacturer and waste solutions provider, Egbert Taylor Group, has received its first global order under a framework agreement with Visionscape Group.

Egbert Taylor Group’s ‘best of British manufacturing’ message has helped the firm expand its global operations

The contract will see Egbert Taylor supply bins throughout the next few years to the global environmental utility group, for new projects currently being rolled out across emerging markets.

The order covers a wide range of commercial waste and recycling containers, including Taylor Continental 1,100L and Sellers’ range of recycling skips ranging from five to 20 cubic metres.

The bins will incorporate radio-frequency identification systems (RFID), which will electronically track and record the movement and fill status of thousands of bins across Visionscape’s new fleet.
The RFID capability will also deliver an asset management tool that enables users to establish each unit’s location and monitor how, where and when each bin is being used.

Brendan Murphy, Egbert Taylor Group’s CEO said the order is a ‘testament’ to the company’s commitment to the changing landscape of waste management.
