The LARAC Conference and Celebration Awards will be coming to a new venue close to the Birmingham NEC this October.

To be held on October 2 and 3, the event will welcome more than 400 visitors from over 270 local authorities and once again provide a forum for waste and recycling officers to network and discuss pressing issues facing the sector.
Alongside the conference, the two-day event also includes LARAC’s annual celebration awards – a chance to recognise the achievements and hard work of local authority recycling officers and their colleagues over the past twelve months.

Carole Taylor, Chair of LARAC, said she was pleased to present the event and highlighted its new venue, the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. The location will allow all conference sessions, workshops, accommodation and evening events to be held under one roof, with good transport links.
She said: “What hasn‘t changed is the great programme with a mix of policy, strategic thinking and operational case studies we know you value so much, not to mention a wide workshop choice to help customise the LARAC experience to your needs.
“We look forward to seeing you in Birmingham and discussing the major changes we have seen in the past 12 months.

LARAC is the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee and represents local government voices on waste and recycling issues.
Highlights
Highlights of the conference schedule include an update on the Resources and Waste Strategy from Defra’s deputy director waste and recycling, Chris Preston, and a strategy question time, featuring Jeremy Blake of Viridor and Libby Peake of Green Alliance.
Mike Brown of Liverpool Streetscene services will present a talk on taking services in-house, whilst WRAP’s Chris Mills will lead a session on targets and tonnages in the final hours of the conference.

The programme also features talks on food waste recycling, a workshop on Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs), a session with advice on services for flats and HMOs, as well as a series of presentations of consistency.
The evening celebration awards, which are hosted on-site, will offer an opportunity to network with key local authority and industry contacts.
