GD Environmental Services has won a contract to collect and process materials from Cardiff city council’s household waste and recycling centres (HWRCs).

As part of the contract, GD Environmental is to handle six materials from the recycling centres, including hard plastics, plasterboard, rubble, paint, mattresses and carpet.

A second company, South Wales Wood Recycling, has won the contract to collect and process wood waste from the HWRCs.

The council put out a contract notice for a company to process and dispose of seven materials which are collected at the recycling centres across the city, including municipal wood waste, mixed plastics, plasterboard, rubble, paint, mattresses and carpets.

In the tender notice, the council said the service provider is to offer collection from the HWRCs and the safe transportation of the recyclates to their treatment facilities. It notes that the service provider should be ‘fully responsible’ for the waste on delivery/collection. And, the authority said collection of the same recyclates by the service provider or a third party, would be the responsibility of the service provider.

There are three HWRCs in Cardiff, located in Rumney, Leckwith and Roath. The recycling centres accept a range of items including mixed green bag recycling, such as cans, glass and cardboard; electrical appliances; building materials; and, other recyclable materials including car batteries, garden waste, and textiles.
