Entry deadline for LARAC Awards approaching

By 29/06/2021News

As the deadline draws closer, the LARAC Conference is calling for entries for its prestigious awards ceremony.

This year will see the event be in-person for the first time since 2019

The awards will be held on the first night of the two day event on Wednesday 6 October 2021 at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham.

LARAC members can enter any of the six awards categories: Best communications campaign of the year, best partnership award, best team of the year, best waste minimisation or prevention project, best new idea, and outstanding contribution to recycling.

The awards are open to LARAC Members to enter until the entry deadline on 2 August.

Leading event

The leading event in the local authority waste and recycling calendar will attract more than 400 visitors (including 170 different authorities) for two days of presentations, practical workshops and networking.

The spotlight will then shine on the LARAC celebration awards to revel in the successes of different local authorities over the past year, and their award winners revealed on the night.

Last year, the event was held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. It celebrated a variety of initiatives undertaken by Larac members, such Bristol’s Litter Hurts campaign and Dudley metropolitan borough council’s Defeating Dudley’s Mattress Mountain.

See more information on what each category criteria highlights:

BEST COMMUNICATIONS CAMPAIGN OF THE YEAR Sponsored by Contenur

Recognising work undertaken by a local authority to put over a specific message or set of messages in one campaign to groups within the local community or to the local area as a whole.

BEST PARTNERSHIP AWARD Sponsored by Viridor

This award is for the local authority which has worked successfully with one or more partners that are within the private or third sectors or with others such as resident groups.

BEST TEAM OF THE YEAR Sponsored by Biffa

Eligible to any local authority team including front line staff (collections, recycling site operations etc.), recycling teams, teams set up to deliver short term projects (communications, community engagement etc.) or to work with colleagues in other departments.

BEST WASTE MINIMISATION OR PREVENTION PROJECT Sponsored by Repic

To highlight successful projects, small or large, which have been instigated by local authority officers to reduce municipal waste generation and/or prevent waste arising.

BEST NEW IDEA Sponsored by IPL

This award is given to recognise a new idea which has proved a positive benefit in the delivery of recycling services within a local authority. The category is broad in approach and could involve a range of ideas whether in service planning and delivery, marketing, communication, equipment and other areas. The entry need not be uniquely new in the sense that the extra development of an existing approach or product will also be considered

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO RECYCLING Sponsored by Countrystyle Recycling

Entrants can be submitted by individuals for themselves or by any other LARAC member. The judges are looking for someone who has shown outstanding dedication and skills to merit recognition regardless to how long they have been in the industry.
