By 23/10/2019News

European Metals Recycling (EMR) has opened its new facility on the Channel Island of Jersey.

The purpose-built facility is located at the La Collette Recycling Park, and was built after the company worked “in partnership” with the Government of Jersey to the relocate from its previous site at Bellozanne.

The plant was officially opened with a ribbon cutting by Deputy Kevin Lewis, minister for infrastructure, on 18 October.

Deputy Kevin Lewis (R), minister for infrastructure, opened the plant alongside EMR’s Bob Garwood

Speaking after the ceremony Deputy Lewis said: “I was really pleased to officially open the new site for EMR Jersey, which now brings all our main solid waste and reuse and recycling facilities into one location at La Collette.”

EMR said the plant will also allow the company to better segregate various grades of metals and it is now able to accept items such as refrigerators and other cooling appliances.

Community

Bob Garwood, director of EMR Jersey, thanked the Channel Island’s government for its support and said that the company looked forward to continuing its work with customers, partners and the local community.

Mr Garwood said: “EMR Jersey is not just a metal recycling facility, it is also a community partner you can rely on. We put a great deal of importance on supporting the communities and groups that are close to our sites.

“Through our Community Fund, we are proud to have contributed to local community and environmentally-based projects on our Island.”

Services

Mr Garwood also highlighted the range of services EMR would be offering from its site at La Collette.

He said that giving our customers an “exceptional service” has always been EMR’s priority and the move helped the company expand its service.

Mr Garwood added:  “At EMR, we recycle everything from a toaster to an aircraft carrier and our constant drive for innovation has led us to develop technologies that will directly benefit our customers.”

The depot at La Collette Recycling Park is now open to the public.
