The Collard Group – the parent company of demolition and waste management company R. Collard – has announced that it has acquired Raymond Brown Waste Solutions (RBWS).

Completed on Friday (18 October) the deal will see the nine recycling centres owned by RBWS, along with its fleet, equipment and people, transferred to the Hampshire-based Collard Group.

The Raymond Brown Group will continue to operate the other divisions of its company, which focus on quarry products and incinerator bottom ash aggregates.

The newly-formed company – which includes the waste division of Raymond Brown and R.Collard –   now has the capacity to process over 1 million tonnes of waste and recycled aggregates annually.

The Collard Group says this further elevates it into “the top-tier of waste management companies”.

It now also boasts over 4,000 skips, a 150-vehicle fleet, more than 400 staff and a turnover in excess of £50 million.

Raymond Brown Waste Solutions, which is based in Hampshire, operates the Chilton Waste and Brown Skips brands.

Commenting on the acquisition, Rob Collard, founder and owner of the Collard Group, said: “The deal brings together two successful businesses and strong brands, creating greater capacity for us and expanding the services available to Raymond Brown Waste Solutions’ customers.”

Mr Collard added: “We felt there was great synergy between the two companies in terms of services and our approach to recycling and sustainability”.

With additional facilities at Chilton (Didcot), Nursling (Southampton) and at Andover on the A303 Collard’s geographical footprint now covers Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire.

‘Business as usual’

In a statement, the Collard group looked to reassure existing customers of both companies that it will be ‘business as usual’ following the announcement.

This will be aided, said the company, by a “seamless transition” brought on by transferring the management team as well as the other staff.

“The two brands will continue to exist alongside each other as we work to merge RBWS into Collard Group,” Mr Collard added.

The acquisition coincides with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of R Collard Ltd.
Don Coates, who was recently appointed chief executive officer at RBWS, added: “Raymond Brown Waste Solutions has been a key part of the group’s overall development but will now have more opportunities for growth as part of a focussed waste business.

“I thank my colleagues for their hard work and dedication to Raymond Brown Group over the years and with them all the best in what I am sure will be a prospering waste company.  Raymond Brown Group will now concentrate on growing its Quarry Products and Fortis IBA divisions both of which have had recent success in securing new reserves and contracts.”
