CARS and MRE postponed to September 2021

By 26/08/2020News

The Complete Auto Recycling Show (CARS) and the Metals Recycling Event (MRE) have both been postponed until 15-16 September 2021.

The events, held alongside each other at Stoneleigh Park near Coventry, are organised by the Environment Media Group, parent company of letsrecycle.com, with the support of the Vehicle Recyclers Association and the British Metals Recycling Association. They were to take place on 18-19 November this year,  having initially been pushed back from 3-4 June as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic.

The CARS and MRE event will now be held in September next year  (pictured: viewing the shredding area at the 2018 show)

Priority

Event organiser at EMG, Ali McQueen, said: “It has been a difficult decision to make, but  overall we think it’s the right one. The health and safety of everyone connected to the show is our number one priority and the precautions that would have been necessary to take would have been detrimental to the event experience.

“We’d like to thank our exhibitors, visitors and partners for their support during this period and are looking forward to making the 2021 event a big success for everyone involved.”

Challenging

Chas Ambrose, VRA secretary

Chas Ambrose, secretary of the Vehicle Recyclers Association, said that despite being disappointed, the association very much looks forward to the event returning in 2021.

Mr Ambrose said: “In view of recent developments it doesn’t come as a complete surprise to me that CARS 2020 has had to be postponed again.  These are, after all, very unusual and uncertain times.  Yes, we are disappointed but social distancing measures in the current circumstances would have made holding the event challenging to say the least.

“This move  gives us all some valuable time to reassess and readjust”

“Plus, with the UK now in recession and the economic outlook likely to deteriorate further in the autumn, this move by EMG gives us all some valuable time to reassess and readjust.”

Mr Ambrose added: “We have been in continual contact with the team at CARS during recent months, and we agree that they have made the right call.  We look forward to returning to CARS in September 2021.”

Supported

The chief executive of the British Metals Recycling Association, James Kelly, said that the association supports the decision, describing it “the right thing to do to ensure people’s safety”.

James Kelly, chief executive of the BMRA, supported the decision to postpone the event

“The BMRA supports EMG’s decision to postpone MRE until 2021. It’s a difficult decision to have to make, but the right one to ensure people’s safety and address the economic uncertainty during these unprecedented times,” he remarked.

And, Mr Kelly added: “We look forward to joining everyone in September next year at the only sector-specific trade show for metal recyclers, meeting other key players in the industry, and speaking with members and non-members alike at the BMRA stand.”
