Turmec appoints chief executive

Engineering and recycling company Turmec has appointed Geoff Bailey as its chief executive.

Geoff Bailey is the new chief executive at Turmec

Mr Bailey joins Turmec following a 20 year career in the recycling and waste services industry in Ireland and the UK. Mr Bailey initially worked at Irish waste management business Greenstar, before joining technology specialist Impact Recycling.

Mr Bailey said: “I am really excited about the opportunity to work with a team with such deep waste-sector expertise and engineering capability to lead the business through the next stages of its development. With an existing customer base in a number of significant global markets, and the continuing focus of public policy on zero landfill, circular economies and climate action, Turmec is well placed to make a real difference for our customers and the innovative solutions that they need in managing waste.”

Niall Fay, chairman of Turmec, said: “Geoff’s leadership credentials and impressive track record are ideally suited to guide Turmec on the strong growth trajectory we are on. Under Geoff’s guidance, we look forward to growing Turmec’s position as a world leader in innovative recycling solutions and supporting our increasing customer base in key markets across the globe.”

Mr Bailey takes over as Turmec CEO from Brian Thornton.

Aaron Williamson joins Cyclelink

Aaron Williamson has joined recovered paper trading company Cyclelink as its area manager for the UK and Ireland. Mr Williamson’s responsibilities for the purchasing side of the business include managing and developing the supplier portfolio, not only for export but also incorporating trading activities in light of the company’s recent acquisition of WPT (Waste Paper Trade).

Aaron Williamson, area manager for recovered paper business Cyclelink

Prior to joining Cyclelink, Mr Williamson had spent the larger part of his career at Viridor in both operational and commercial activities, including the sale of Viridor paper products to the UK and European markets.

He said: “I relish the exciting challenge that working for Cyclelink brings, especially with the significant involvement in the export market. I feel I have a very unique role working for a Chinese mill group company and this is something I have always aimed for. With Cyclelink acquiring WPT, I also have a great challenge ahead in transitioning to involvement in that side of the business which will be looking for all grades.

Cyclelink are well known for purchasing OCC and this is something we will still do actively, but now being able to supply WPT with middle and high grades adds another dimension. As soon as restrictions are lifted on travel, I am looking forward to visiting suppliers old and new and to openly promote the Cyclelink brand.”

Global trader

Gary Waters, director at Cyclelink UK, said: “As the world markets change through bans or tighter controls on quality, Cyclelink is changing into a global trader of paper products. We are still actively supplying fibre to our mills in China through various different projects, but also our trading business is now becoming a major part of our business.

“With Aaron joining us and the experience he brings in the higher grades, this will help us to improve our position in the trading market for all grades. Our range of European and South East Asia outlets means we are perfectly placed to service all of our suppliers needs and we look forward to working together with them on many new projects we have forthcoming in 2021.”
