Sarah Heald, director of corporate affairs and investor relations at the Pennon Group, has been included in Management Today’s 35 Women Under 35 list for 2017.

Management Today’s profile notes that she is one of the youngest ever directors of a FTSE-250 company and references her efforts with regard to the charter, TV commentary on the environment and business response to the challenges facing the region post-Brexit.

Ms Heald, who has 10 years of finance and business experience in utilities and infrastructure, has called for a “Bespoke for Britain” waste and resources policy post-Brexit.

She said: “As a business investing £1.5 billion in energy recovery, recycling and waste management across the UK, we want to see strong waste and resources policies at the heart of the UK’s Industrial Strategy.”

The Management Today list includes ambitious entrepreneurs to executives from institutions including the Bank of England and the Metropolitan Police.

Pennon is the FTSE-250 company which owns Viridor, South West Water and Bournemouth Water.

Reardon named managing director of Max-AI

Bulk Handling Systems (BHS) has named Rich Reardon as managing director of Max-AI.

During Reardon’s decade long career with BHS he has served as BHS’ Director of Sales and Marketing and most recently as Southwest Regional Sales Manager and Plastics Market Specialist.

In his new role, Reardon will lead the company’s Max-AI-related business development and Max autonomous system integration.

Max-AI technology is an artificial intelligence that identifies recyclables and other items for recovery, using a vision system to ‘see’ and identify objects similar to the way a person does. BHS said the technology will drive improvements in Material Recovery Facility (MRF) design, operational efficiency, recovery, system optimization, maintenance, and more.

“Max-AI technology is the type of development that will change the industry,” said Reardon. “I’m thrilled to lead our global efforts around Max-AI and can’t wait to deliver unprecedented results to our customers.

Paddy McGreavy joins the Greater Manchester-headquartered engineering firm from packaging giant DS Smith, where he worked in a number of senior roles on the recycling side of the company.

In a statement, Whitham Mills explained that during his 37-year tenure with DS Smith, Mr McGreavy was responsible for growing the business into mainland Europe and also spent spells managing the Leeds and Bolton depots: the former being one of DS Smith’s largest sites, handling more than 12,000 tonnes of paper and card recycling per month.

Most recently he was seconded on a consultancy basis by Tesco, to overhaul the retailer’s existing forecourt recycling operations across the UK.

Whitham Mills has recently reported a 35% increase in year-on-year turnover, and has brought in McGreavy to ‘help manage increased demand’ for its one-stop-shop offering of recycling machinery, consumables, and after-sales service and repair.

He will be responsible for sales and business development from Scotland down to Birmingham.
