One of the UK’s most well known waste and recycling consultants, Dr Adam Read, is to succeed resource and recycling expert Dr Gev Eduljee, who is to retire from his post as Suez external affairs director.

Dr Read, a practice director at Ricardo, is seen as having a renowned knowledge of the waste sector including a deep knowledge of local authority activities. He will take on his new role at Suez from September this year.

Currently practice director for waste management and resource efficiency, and part of the energy and environment management team at consultancy, Ricardo, Dr Read was visiting waste professor at Northampton University for seven years.

Dr Eduljee has been employed by Suez since 2001, originally as environment and technical director, before becoming external affairs director in 2008. He also served on the board of the SITA Trust – now Suez Communities Trust – between 2001 and 2007. Prior to working at Suez, Dr Eduljee worked in hazardous waste treatment and environmental consulting.

As director of external affairs, Suez said Dr Eduljee was ‘instrumental’ in coordinating the company’s public policy work, its engagement with policy-makers and its industry thought-leadership, while also serving as expert counsel on legislative, technical and political issues to both the business and its customers.

Addition

Chief executive of SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, David Palmer-Jones, said: “We look forward to welcoming Adam to SUEZ in September and I am sure he will prove to be a very strong addition to our leadership team.

“Although we will continue to benefit from Gev’s presence and experience over the next few months, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Gev for all of his efforts over the past 16 years.”

Dr Read said: “I am really excited about the opportunity to join SUEZ, and work closely with the leadership team on the future positioning of the business in the UK market. SUEZ has been one of the leading waste management companies during the 20 years or so I have worked in the sector, and I am keen to get involved with all aspects of the business come September.”

He continued: “I am sad to be leaving behind many close friends and colleagues after a busy nine years at Ricardo, but the opportunity to work with David and his leadership team was just too good to turn down.”

And, Dr Read remarked that he thought the sector “is changing, and at a speed faster than ever before, so I look forward to helping steer SUEZ through these changes; supporting the company’s clients; and helping to shape the sector as much as possible”.

Policy

During his time at Suez, Dr Eduljee has been heavily involved on a range of topics including policy issues for consideration by governments and worked on topics such as the future of cities.

Dr Eduljee said: “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to represent SUEZ and to work alongside colleagues in other waste management companies, trade associations, committees and advisory boards, to ensure that the true worth of our sector is appreciated, and nurtured, by government.”
