Accreditation suspended for plastic packaging waste exporter

By 26/11/2019News

The Environment Agency announced on Friday 22 November that an exporter of plastic packaging waste for recycling had its accreditation for issuing evidence for plastic suspended under the PRN system.

The Agency said that with effect from 22 November 2019, Roydon Resource Recovery Ltd of Junction Eco Park, Rake Lane, Swinton, Manchester (EX19199930) had its exporter accreditation suspended for plastic.

Exporters of packaging waste, such as plastics for recycling, are eligible to raise export PRNs

As of today (26 November) the company is still listed as “suspended” for issuing of evidence on plastic exports.

In a letter to the packaging waste sector, including exporters, compliance schemes and reprocessors, and with reference to the company, the Agency said: “Evidence should not be issued on packaging exported or received for reprocessing during a period of suspension.”

The company has Accreditation Number EX19199930 for plastic.

Timescale

The Agency added, in the letter, that it would notify the sector “if the suspension is removed”. No timescale was given.

When approached by letsrecycle.com for an explanation of the reason for the suspension, an Environment Agency spokesperson said: “The Environment Agency suspended Roydon Resource Recovery’s accreditation on 22 November 2019 due to a breach of Schedule 5 of the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2007.”

Anyone with questions about the suspension is asked to contact the Agency by calling 02084 747 609 or by email at packaging@environment-agency.gov.uk. Details of the suspension are available on the National Packaging Waste Database website under the public registers section for packaging at NPWD.

Accreditation

Accreditation under the packaging waste system means that exporters of packaging waste, such as plastics for recycling, are eligible to raise export PRNs.

These can be sold as evidence of recycling under the UK’s PRN packaging waste system.
