WRAP announces Recycle Week dates

By 14/01/2020News

Resources body WRAP’s 18th annual Recycle Week is to be held between 21 and 27 September, with the theme to be announced later this year.

Each year Recycle Week is held by WRAP in an attempt to change people’s recycling behaviours while gaining positive publicity.

Recycle Week 2019 ran from 23-29 September

A spokesperson for WRAP said: “2020 has just kicked off and we are already thinking about the next Recycle Week. This year, it will take place between 21st and 27th September – hold the date in your diary!”

The theme for the 2019 Recycle Week campaign, ‘Recycling. It’s in our hands’, was said by WRAP to have been inspired by the Extinction Rebellion protests and the activism of Greta Thunberg and Sir David Attenborough (see letsrecycle.com story).

Many businesses and local authorities launched their own campaigns, hosted special events or provided financial support as part of the week.

The week saw South Cambridgeshire district and Cambridge city councils release a list of the strangest items they have found in their recycling bins, including grenades, games consoles, disco lights, wellies, toilet seats and a bowling ball.

Measures to improve business recycling rates were also announced by the Welsh Government and Coca-Cola Great Britain launched an advertising campaign encouraging recycling of the brand’s plastic bottles (see letsrecycle.com story).

It is expected this year will see similar levels of participation.

With assets used during the week said by WRAP to have been well received by partners and to have achieved excellent engagement from citizens, the resources body has taken out the references to Recycle Week and made them available for use on social media and in poster and pull up banner formats here.
