By 13/02/2020News

Louise Grantham has been appointed as the new chief executive of REPIC, replacing the outgoing Mark Burrows-Smith.

Ms Grantham will move into the role in March, when Mr Burrows-Smith moves to become group chief executive of Textile Recycling International (TRI), the UK’s largest textiles recycling business.

TRI was formed in September 2016, and in October that year it acquired JMP Wilcox Ltd, before acquiring I&G Cohen Ltd in April 2017 (see letrecycle.com story).

It acts as a holding company for JMP Wilcox, which describes itself as the UK’s largest textile recycler and Bag It Up, which focuses on charity textile bank collections.

In a statement, Ms Grantham said: “I am extremely proud of the business we have built and I am very fortunate to have a great team around me. We are committed to providing excellent services to our producer members, while maintaining and building on the positive relationships we have across the sector. This is a great industry to work in. We face interesting and exciting times and I look forward to the year ahead.”

‘Driving force’

Louise has been REPIC’s finance director since 2005 and was described by the compliance specialist as “a driving force in building the business into the UK’s largest household waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) producer compliance scheme”.

As finance director, Louise was responsible for REPIC’s corporate and financial governance, and acted as policy lead on battery, packaging and WEEE producer responsibility legislation. REPIC said that Louise has liaised extensively with REPIC’s producer members and organisations across the sector in both the UK and Europe.

Ms Grantham will take over from Mark Burrows-Smith in March 2020, when he takes up a new position as group chief executive for the UK’s largest textile recycling business, Textile Recycling International Ltd.

Abs Bokhari, chairman and general counsel of Hoover Ltd and chair of the REPIC Board, commented: “The Board is delighted to welcome Louise as our chief executive. With the WEEE Regulations being consulted upon this year, and extended producer responsibility under review, she is the ideal person to lead the business through this important period.

“Louise is a key influencer on WEEE policy, in particular, and has worked tirelessly to represent our producer members’ needs. I have every confidence that REPIC and its members will continue to thrive under her leadership. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Mark for his leadership of REPIC over the last three years and wish him well in his new role.”
