Renewi makes ‘strong progress’ in first year

By 28/02/2018News

Exactly a year since the Shanks Group rebranded as Renewi following its merger with Dutch competitor Van Gansewinkel, the waste management company say it has made “strong progress”.

Renewi also claims it has improved on its environmental sustainability by reaching a recycling and recovery rate of 90% across its operations. This is across the five divisions it operates in including household waste in the Netherlands and Belgium and also long-term waste management contracts within the UK and Canada.

“Good progress” has been made in Renewi’s first year, the company has said

Commenting on the anniversary, Peter Dilnot, chief executive at Renewi said the company, which also operates in North America, is proud of its achievements. He said:  “This is just the beginning as there is so much to come from Renewi. We’re very well placed to deliver growth with greater customer pull, regulatory push and a clear environmental need for our services.”

Revised expectations

Earlier this month, Renewi released a trading update for the period between October and February in which it said it is making “good operation progress”, despite facing continuing losses on municipal contracts with Wakefield council and for the Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham (BDR) partnership.

In the update, the company said its Municipal Division – which comprises contracts to deliver services on behalf of East London Waste Authority (ELWA), the BDR partnership, Cumbria and Dumfries and Galloway councils – has performed in line with its “revised expectations […] delivering good operational progress against the recovery plans”.

The company said it remains on track to deliver at least the €12m committed savings for the year ending 31 March 2018. And, the company said it remains confident that the overall €40m synergy programme will be delivered on schedule.

Achievements

In its first year of operation, Renewi say it has made strong progress with post-merger integration, operational delivery and rebranding.  “Renewi has now rebranded over 1,000 trucks and 100 sites. As part of the integration, Renewi is also rolling-out an upgraded and more efficient truck fleet and just introduced a full electric collection pilot for the collection of C&D waste in Rotterdam,” the company said in a statement.
