Recycling firm Plasticity (Worldwide) enters liquidation

By 07/10/2019News

Liquidators have been appointed at Staffordshire-based plastics recycling company, Plasticity (Worldwide) Ltd, which has debts of more than £2 million.

A notice last month in the UK’s official record publication, the Gazette, said that it was passed at general meeting of the company on September 17, that the firm would “be wound up voluntarily” and insolvency practitioners Alexander Lawson Jacobs UK (ALJUK) be appointed.

Plasticity was formed in August 2015, the same month that, according to Companies House, the company acquired What-A-Waste ltd, which was established in 2006 by former BPI director Chris Smith.

What-A-Waste directors Chris Smith and Richard Hudson were also directors at Plasticity, before Mr Hudson resigned in 2016, Companies House documents suggest.

What-A-Waste had sorted and sold mixed plastic polystyrene, polypropylene and polyethylene from its base in Staffordshire and handled in excess of 20,000 tonnes of material per year at its plant.

The What-A-Waste recycling plant is listed as Plasticity’s registered address. There is no record of other facilities.

Debts

According to the publicly available ‘statement of affairs’ from the administrators, Plasticity was entered into liquidation with debts of more than £2 million.

Plasticity, which was a member of Recoup, explained as part of its description on Recoup’s membership page that it “recycles mixed rigid plastics from Local and County Councils, Waste Management Companies, Retailers and Manufacturers.”

When approached for comment by letsrecycle.com, the joint liquidators of the company, the North London-based joint liquidators ALJUK refused to comment.
