Valpak appoints director of new business
Compliance specialist Valpak has appointed Kieran Roche as director of new business.

Mr Roche joins the company from the American commercial real estate services and investment firm CBRE Group.
In a statement announcing his appointment, Valpak, which is part of the Reconomy Group, said he brought a “track record in growing business in a customer friendly way that will build upon the strengths of the existing team”.
Mr Roche said: “Valpak is well-known for reliability and quality of service when it comes to compliance, but in recent years the team has developed a range of services that help customers address challenges across the whole packaging supply chain.
“We anticipate demand for these value-added services to escalate in light of the changes to producer responsibility legislation, and it is our ambition to support our customers in a manner that leaves them healthier.”
Martin Crow to launch O.C.O Technology programme
Consultant and former head of Environment Hanson UK, Martin Crow, has been appointed by carbon capture technology specialists O.C.O Technology to spearhead the launch of a sustainability programme.

Mr Crow will focus on areas including attainment of the BRE’s BES 6001 certification on responsible sourcing of construction products.
He said: “I am delighted to be working alongside the O.C.O Technology team. The innovative processes they have developed combine the circular economy with carbon utilisation and are already delivering impressive benefits, not only to the construction industry, but also in terms of treatment options for the waste sector.
“I look forward to developing the necessary strategies and protocols around a strong sustainability platform that will help shape the business into a global force in years to come.”
Mr Crow spent more than two decades with Hanson UK as part of a 45-year career and recently received an MPA Special Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Mineral Products Association.
Manager appointed at Piddlehinton AD plant
Dorset-based Eco Sustainable Solutions has appointed Ed Johnson as the manager of its anaerobic digestion (AD) plant in Piddlehinton.

Having moved to the UK as part of the US air force, Mr Johnson retrained as a scientist before entering the world of green energy.
He said: “After my career in the military I worked in various environmental laboratory positions.
“Before moving to Eco, I managed a similar plant in Lincolnshire and these plants are very much the future. We turn food waste, which we take from councils and supermarkets, into gas, most of which is then converted into electricity.
“There are plans to innovate further in order to ensure that Eco Sustainable Solutions remains at the forefront of the industry.”
Eco Sustainable Solutions’ AD plant opened in 2012 and converts more than 25,000 tons of discarded food waste into gas and electricity annually.
Peter Hardy, Eco’s commercial director, said: “Ed is highly experienced and qualified in this area, so we are extremely pleased to have him.
“The AD plant has been a huge success for us, and we want to keep pushing forward with the technology so we can create as much green energy as possible.”
Keenan Recycling announces circular economy ambassador
Food waste collection company Keenan Recycling has announced its environmental compliance manager Rachael Reid has volunteered to be a circular economy ambassador for the Circular North East initiative.

The scheme is organised by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce’s (AGCC).
One of around 40 circular economy ambassadors to assist Circular North East in educating businesses in the region on how to make more sustainable operational decisions that cut or eliminate waste, Ms Reid is a qualified conservational biologist.
She said: “I’ve always cared about protecting our environment and tried to live a green lifestyle which is why I enjoy my role at Keenan, educating our customers on what the circular economy is, why it’s so important that we reduce landfill waste levels and how Keenan can help them do this.
“Recycling and managing food waste is such an easy way to really make a positive impact to our world. I’m pleased to be given the opportunity to talk to other businesses, alongside like-minded professionals to encourage a green movement across the north east.”
Circular North East has also assembled a steering group, of which Rachael is also a member, to discuss wider strategic aspects of the circular economy in the region and how it relates to issues such as climate change, the economy and the national waste agenda.
