The company, Brookes & Brothers Ltd was founded in 1927 by Nelson and Stanley Brookes.

Brian’s son, Peter, explained that Nelson and Stanley were joined by Stanley’s sons – Dennis, Brian and Graham Brookes.

He said: “Brian joined the family business in 1953, and in 1962 Denis, Brian and Graham bought out Nelson Brookes and continued when their father retired. Dennis died unexpectedly in 1980, and Brian and Graham continued running and growing the business, with Graham retiring in 1987, when I joined the business.”

Peter continued: “N. Brookes & Brothers was initially located in Victoria Road, Blackheath, West Midlands before moving to larger premises in 1967 at Powke Lane, Cradley Heath, and with continued investment and growth, expanded to include premises in Stoney Stanton and Rugby.

Brian “semi-retired” in 1992 to carry on his hobbies and other interests and in 2007 N. Brookes & Bros Ltd became part of Metal and Waste Recycling Ltd.”

Brian leaves a wife Jean, son Peter and daughters Sue and Gillian. The funeral service will be held at St Paul’s Church, Long Lane, Blackheath, West Midlands on Friday 9th June at 1.15pm, followed by refreshments at Hagley Golf & Country Club.
