Hounslow unveils recycling awareness campaign

Hounslow council has launched a recycling awareness campaign called ‘Know your Plastic’, in partnership with London Recycles.

The campaign will help residents know what they are able to recycle

Launched this week, 13 July, the campaign aims to educate residents on how to recycle all types of plastic household items and provide clarity on items that cause more confusion.

The campaign follows a 27% increase in recycling materials in the borough, between April and May.

Councillor Guy Lambert, cabinet member for recycling at Hounslow Council, said: “Recycling really matters. Recycling an item rather than throwing it in the rubbish bin means that it will be dealt with in the most environmentally friendly way, keeping materials in use. The ‘Know Your Plastic’ campaign aims to make this process even more straightforward.”

Ward gains accreditation for Immingham Dock

Metal recycling firm, Ward, has gained official accreditation for its deep-sea dock in Immingham.

The site has been awarded the Lloyd’s Register ISO 9001:2015 quality standard.

According to the Lloyd’s Register website, gaining this accreditation “demonstrates that your quality management system follows a robust and globally recognised approach that’s focused on continually improving your processes and managing business risks”.

The site in North Lincolnshire was opened in 2018 for recycling ferrous and non-ferrous metals for export, and expanded Ward’s capacity for processing over 500,000 tonnes of metal annually.

Ashley Oates, head of sustainability at Ward, said: “We used the period of disruption during lockdown to be able to really focus on achieving this accreditation. We took the opportunity to scale back other projects and spent the time going through the rigorous audit process required to meet the Lloyd’s Register quality standards.”

Eco-Power signs sponsorship deal with football club

Recycling and alternative fuels company, Eco-Power Environmental, has announced a sponsorship deal with Stocksbridge Park Steels Football Club.

(L-R) Roger Gissing, commercial manager at Stocksbridge Park Steels,  and Louis Calders, group commercial director at Eco-Powers

Eco-Power Environmental made the deal with the club after the playing season abruptly ended and long term sponsorship agreements finished.

Group commercial director at Eco-Powers, Louis Calders said: “Eco-Power Environmental has sites across the country but our head office and the roots of the business are here in South Yorkshire. As a collective we have a passion for football and community and we want to get the club on a positive footing both on and off the pitch.

“We can see the great work that the club is doing and will work with them to ensure the long-term viability of ‘The Steels’ and hopefully realise the aspirations the club and its fantastic supporters.”

The club’s commercial manager, Roger Gissing added: “This deal means we now have a solid platform to build on and will ensure that we have a club to be proud of.”

AMCS releases waste and recycling platform update

AMCS, a supplier of integrated software and vehicle technology for the waste industry, has released an update for its platform which it says will “significantly cut implementation times”.

AMCS is an IT provider for the waste and recycling industry

AMCS say that the new AMCS Platform 8.3 will benefit SME operators and remove a major barrier to these companies, by reducing implementation time and associated costs.

The AMCS platform, according to the company, “enables established waste & recycling companies to operate smarter, more seamlessly and more digitally”.

laine Treacy, global product director at AMCS, said: “AMCS Platform guarantees companies a strong foundation from which they can proactively anticipate future developments. Its integrated solutions help customers to leverage their key value drivers enabling them to increase revenue growth, margin expansion, operational efficiency and sustainability, while at the same time reducing costs.”
