By 28/07/2020News

Further categories have been added to this year’s Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management to celebrate the exceptional work undertaken by the sector during the pandemic.

The Individual or Team Contribution in Response to the Coronavirus Pandemic award will recognise an individual or group of individuals who have shown commitment and spirit in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

An award will also be given for Best Project, Partnership, Campaign or Initiative in Response to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Daniella Jarvie-Thomas is events director at Environment Media Group, the organisers of the awards and the parent company of letsrecycle.com. She said: “The coronavirus pandemic has presented many challenges for local authorities, private businesses and charity organisations in the waste and recycling sector.

“We have launched these two new categories to recognise the excellent work undertaken by organisations and also celebrate the teams and individuals who have come together to make them happen.”

The deadline for entries is 5 September.

Extra mile

Now taking place on 6 November at the Landmark Hotel in London, the long-running awards recognise local authorities, recycling companies and individuals who have gone the extra mile in their role.

The awards are judged by an expert panel including Steve Eminton, editor of letsrecycle.com, Jacob Hayler from the Environmental Services Association, Julia Turner from the Wood Recyclers’ Association, Robbie Warden from The Resource Association and Carole Taylor from LARAC.

Other awards categories include Collection Crew of the Year, Best Use of Design and Technology, Civic Amenity Site of the Year and Recycling Champion.

Prestigious prize

Last year’s event, attended by more than 400 people, was hosted by MasterChef star Gregg Wallace.

Further details of all the categories can be found here.

Entry to the awards is free and applicants may enter more than one category. Submissions can be made here. A 500-word summary with supporting information about how the entrants have achieved their success can be submitted with each entry.
