Wastepack to run half marathon for blood cancer charity
Employees from compliance scheme Wastepack will be running the Royal Park’s half marathon this coming weekend to raise money for NATSIRT which is in the final stages of becoming a formal blood cancer charity.

Wastepack will be part of a team of 12 hoping to raise £7,750 towards funding research to fight blood cancer and to support everyone affected by blood related cancers. The Wastepack runners include CEO Lynne Cullis and Daisy Malyon, PR and communications executive.
Raising the money will also help NATSIRT to finalise its charity status and do more to support those affected by the disease. They have so far raised £30,000 for blood cancer related charities in memory of Tristan Martin.
The half marathon takes place on 13 October and covers four of London’s eight Royal Parks – Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens.
Wastepack and their fellow runners are almost halfway to their fundraising target and are still accepting donations on their crowdfunding page.
Mick George awards over £32k through extended sports fund
Mick George has awarded £32,891 to local sports projects through an extension of the company’s Sports Fund.
Mick George have supported sports groups across Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire
Across Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire 25 initiatives have now been supported across 15 different sporting disciplines. More than 75 groups expressed interest in the scheme.
Chesterton rowing club, Touche fencing club, Corby gymnastics academy, Whetstone Junior FC and Market Harborough trampoline academy are amongst the clubs being supported by Mick George.
Stuart Costello, marketing director at Mick George, commented: ‘’The volume of applications that we’ve received this round has far exceeded previous rounds which shows that the programme is really starting to build momentum.’’
Beddington ERF supports south London charities
Viridor has announced the latest recipients of its Beddington Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) charitable partnerships.

St Raphaels Hospice, The British Home and Merton Mencap have been nominated by employees to be corporate charity partners for 2019/20. Delegates from each of the charities visited the Beddington ERF in Sutton to receive a cheque for £3333.
The three charities were initially selected by construction workers at the Beddington ERF to recognise safe working in 2016 and 2017.
Mike Stafford, head of contracts for Viridor, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with three local charities in south London. Their stories are truly inspiring and the team onsite are really proud to be able to support this fantastic work. We first started supporting them in 2016 and over the years the level of care these charities administer is truly staggering.”
TOMRA UK partners with all-female plastic pollution mission
TOMRA UK are supporting the all-female eXXpedition team as they get ready to circumnavigate the world raising awareness of plastic pollution.

The reverse vending machine providers are gold-sponsors of the voyage and some of the TOMRA team will be joining eXXpedition’s crew during the two-year mission, in which the women will research microplastic pollution and campaign against marine litter.
Truls Haug, managing director of TOMRA Collection Solutions UK & Ireland, said: “We are immensely proud to be sponsoring this cutting-edge scientific research mission once again.”
Last year Kristine Berg, TOMRA’s circular economy adviser, joined eXXpedition between Hawaii and Vancouver. This year she will join them again for a leg of the trip.
She said: “Reverse vending, waste sorting and circular economy are vital ways to turn off the tap of plastic litter entering our oceans, and we at TOMRA need to see the true scale of the pollution to build understanding and urgency around the issue of marine litter.”
Suez and MERL distribute over £60,000 to Kirkby causes
Over £60,000 has been distributed to good causes in Kirkby through the Kirkby Neighbourhood Community Fund – which is supported by Merseyside Energy Recovery Limited (MERL) and Suez Recycling and Recovery UK.
Projects that have successful in applying for funding include Incredible Edibles Knowsley, Diversity Boxing Academy and Care Merseyside.
There is usually £50,000 of funding available, but a high number of worthy applications means the funding has been extended to £66,000 this year.
Speaking at a celebration event for the recipients, Andrew Hughes – contract manager at Suez – said: “We are delighted to be making these awards today. We received so many applications from some really outstanding projects – I’m so glad that we have been able to increase the amount for this year!”
