CARS and metals event postponed to November

By 27/03/2020News

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Complete Auto Recycling Show (CARS) and Metals Recycling Event (MRE) have been postponed until November.

Originally planned for 3-4 June 2020, both events will now take place on 18-19 November 2020 at Stoneleigh Park, West Midlands.

The events take place every two years and in 2018 there were more than 1,400 registered visitors (see letsrecycle.com story). The organisers are the Environment Media Group, parent company of letsrecycle.com, working with trade associations including the Vehicle Recyclers Association and the British Metals Recycling Association.

CARS and MRE

The last CARS and MRE event in 2018 had 1,400 registered attendees

Event organiser, Ali McQueen said: “The health and safety of our visitors, exhibitors and the wider community is our number one priority and in light of the pandemic we have decided not to run the show in June as planned.

We are hopeful that the situation improves over the next couple of months and look forward to running a successful event in November. We’d like to thank everyone involved for their support and wish them well throughout this challenging time”.

Endorsed

The decision to postpone the event was endorsed by the Vehicle Recyclers Association (VRA) and the British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA)

Chas Ambrose, secretary of the VRA, said even if lockdown measures are eased the priority is not to see a spike in infections.

“We’re all disappointed that CARS 2020 is not going ahead in June, but it’s completely understandable in the current situation”

Chas Ambrose, Vehicle Recycling Association

“Naturally we’re all disappointed that CARS 2020 is not going ahead in June, but it’s completely understandable in the current situation,” he remarked.

Mr Ambrose added: Our priorities, like all other responsible citizens, are to help slow the spread of the virus, safeguard the vulnerable and when restrictions are eased to ensure that we do not see a sudden spike in infections.  I know that the organisers have kept this uppermost in their minds and have been preparing contingency plans.  Postponing the event is in the best interests of all, but we look forward to seeing everyone – members, friends and colleagues – happy and healthy in the near future.”

‘Fully supporting’

James Kelly, chief executive of the BMRA, commented: “With the wide restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in place, I welcome the decision to postpone the Metals Recycling Event.

As a key supporter of the only sector-specific trade show, BMRA is committed to fully supporting MRE in November. In the meantime, I look forward both to presenting at one of the conference sessions and welcoming visitors to our stand!”

Events

The pandemic has seen a number of waste and recycling events due to take place in the coming weeks and months postponed, as governments impose lockdown measures and bans on large gatherings.
