By 30/03/2021News

A “significant” fire broke out at a  plant owned by Datashredders at the Eastwood Industrial Estate in Wimblington, Cambridgeshire yesterday (29 March).

The fire broke out at the Eastwood Industrial Estate in Wimblington

More than 50 firefighters were called to the scene at 9.53am to find the fire at the industrial building “well developed”.

Crews “worked hard” to extinguish the fire and stop it spreading to other buildings.

It was reported by fire crew commander David Linch, who was at the scene yesterday, that the fire involved large amounts of baled and shredded paper.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said that fire crews were assisted by staff at the site who used diggers to break up the bales of paper.

The nearby A141 road was closed for some time but reopened at around 6pm.

Those living in and around Wimblington were advised to close their doors and windows due to smoke.

The fire service said that crews remained on scene today (March 30th), and that the cause is believed to be accidental.
